I Don’t Need a Stone to Speak for Me
Howard Peterson
Listen
And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. (Luke 19:37-40)
Inquire
I am pretty certain that for all, there are a plethora of chores that we just don’t like to do. There is this certain type or category of chore that I wish to speak on and it’s the ones where others ask us to do them but we simply say “we don’t want to or we don’t feel like it.” The response back is “OK, I’ll just do it myself!” I’m talking spouse, parents and good friends that really expected you to just say yes, but you are too lazy, too busy(so you say) or too self-centered to just get up and do it. And the kicker is when they start to do the chore, then all of the sudden we decide we’ll do it. Then of course we end with the whole back and forth: “No I got it; No let me do it; Seriously, I’ll do it; No don’t trouble yourself” and finally “JUST GIVE IT HERE…I’m sorry!” Why in the world didn’t we just do it in the first place?
Faith
What if the Whole Multitude of Disciples just didn’t feel like praising and rejoicing because they were too lazy, too busy or too self-centered? What if after the Mighty Works they had seen they just did nothing? Jesus gives us the coolest of all cool answers: I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. WOW, the stones of the earth, the stones that God created would have cried out for Jesus! (Go ahead, you can say it ~ How stinking Cool) But, the Disciples did rejoice and praise God with a loud voice; surely we won’t allow a stone to cry out in our place?
Experience
Father God, help us to be unashamed for the name of Jesus. Help us to hold up the Sword of the Spirit singing glory in the highest. Amen and Amen
