You Read Your First Book
Howard Peterson
Listen
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." (Luke 24:45-49)
Inquire
Since my daughter first learned to read, she loved it and has ever since. My wife gets all this credit and I look for other things to take credit for, mostly silly stuff. So over the years my wife and daughter have been avid readers. Sometimes two in a week; that just does not excite me in the least. A year or so ago I randomly selected a book from a quaint Christian book store that seemed to jump out at me called the “Barbarian Way.” It is a very small book and great read. It took me a week or so to complete. When I had finished; I glowingly told my family that I had finished the book. My daughter sweetly walked over to me with a smile on her face and said “I am proud of you Dad…you read your first book!” I was taken aback and clamored that I had read lots of books but the reality was she had never seen me do this in her lifetime.
Faith
Our minds have been opened so we can understand the Scriptures- Repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all- Our Father has clothed us with power from on high! Understanding of Scripture requires us to be “IN” God’s Holy Word. Preaching in His name requires using our voice and sharing this understanding. Power from on high requires us to put God first and allow his Holy Spirit to work in and through us.
Experience
Father God, we are blessed because you sent your Son to: suffer and rise from the dead on the third day! Hallelujah…Amen and Amen
