Acts 1: 7-9—He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. |

Superheroes have made a comeback. Movie producers have revived, among others, Spiderman, Catwoman, and Batman. The superpowers and special effects have made a lot of progress since the days of the on-screen BAM and POW graphics of yesteryear. Superhero costumes have become more popular at fall festivals. If I could have a superpower, I would want to be able to fly like Superman, only without having to wear the leotard and tights. I think all of us have imagined having super powers. |

When we think about how superheroes use their powers, it is to rescue people, to save them from danger. The incredible truth is, once I accepted Jesus as my Savior I became a new being, one endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit, greater power than all of Marvel’s superheroes combined. How am I supposed to use this power? Jesus said to use it to be His witness to the ends of the earth. How important is that? That was Jesus’ last instruction to His disciples before leaving them forever. If I heed Jesus’ command I will be a superhero, helping to save people’s lives not from immediate danger, but for eternity by leading them to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. |

Father God, help me to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead in bringing people to Jesus. Amen |
