...IAN
Howard Peterson
Listen
For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians. (Acts 11:26)
Inquire
“ian” - One relating to, belonging to, or resembling. I was born and raised in Florida and never traveled much except to my Aunt’s house in South Georgia, but that doesn’t count as really traveling to me. Least not at that age but when I joined the service and flew from Florida to California in the same day it was a culture shock. I found myself randomly stuck with guys from all over the US in the same barracks. It was interesting to see all of us claim our state as if it was the best state to be from even though I had never considered it until that moment. This is when I had first used the term “I am a Floridian.” I have since lived in a few states and now reside in Alabama for some seven or so years, but in my heart I am a Floridian. And as for the guy that asked me if I was from California and I said no, Florida. Then he had the never to say “same difference,” HELLO…East Coast/West Coast. Surfing & Beaches do not make you siblings.
Faith
To just think that the term Christian goes way-way back to Antioch is just so cool. Not so long ago I came to like using the term “Christ Follower” instead of Christian. This comes from I guess, that so many Christians have tarnished the meaning and so many Non-Christians have come to view it as a negative instead of a positive. I still use the term Floridian even though there have been plenty of Florida Natives that have tarnished my home state but I’m still proud of that name? Not sure if I would ever say I’m a Florida Relater? I’m a Christian just like the first Christians. I have received the Holy Spirit and if I need to help un-tarnish the silver then that’s what I’m to do!
Experience
Father God, Help me to follow the example of Jesus Christ to be the Christian you have planned for me to be. Amen and Amen
