(Acts 18:27-28 King James Version) And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ. |

(Acts 18:27-28 The Message) When Apollos decided to go on to Achaia province, his Ephesian friends gave their blessing and wrote a letter of recommendation for him, urging the disciples there to welcome him with open arms. The welcome paid off: Apollos turned out to be a great help to those who had become believers through God's immense generosity. He was particularly effective in public debate with the Jews as he brought out proof after convincing proof from the Scriptures that Jesus was in fact God's Messiah. |

I thought I would continue the now and again theme of understanding scripture. Both from simply reading it; and also from using different versions or study guides. The KJV speaks with brethren, exhorting, mightily and shewing, while the Message uses friends, urging, effective and proof. Scripture tells us that Apollos was a learned man with thorough knowledge of scriptures or as I would put it: he was a smart dude. Even with this knowledge, Priscilla and Aquila saw the need to explain to him the way of God more adequately. So Apollos was getting it but needed to get the complete story. On our “Walk” we can be learned men and women but let’s continue to learn and study the way of God more adequately. Cause we got some “Shewing” to do! |
