Mark 1:9-11—At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” |

The contrasts are dramatic in the above passage: Heaven being “torn” open, a powerful, violent picture; then the Holy Spirit, like a dove, peaceful and gentle descending on Jesus. The voice of Almighty God coming from heaven; yet, speaking tender words of love and affirmation. The One and Only God, the Creator of everything, in the body of a man. |

Finally, Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are united in bringing the promised Messiah to all those who would choose to believe. The opportunity to one day hear those same words, “With you I am well pleased,” made available to you and me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Blessed Trinity. |
